OpenDoor Housing Fund, formerly the Unitarian Universalist Affordable Housing Corporation, has been hard at work helping Capital area families keep a decent roof over their heads during the economic downturn. Here’s one recent accomplishment: In the spring of 2008, thirteen families who live at Randle Heights Apartments in S.E., DC, were shocked to learn that the developer had abandoned their project, leaving an incomplete renovation and a defaulted loan with Adams Bank.  When foreclosure procedures began in September 2008, OpenDoor helped the Tenants Association gain bankruptcy protection and is continuing to work closely to refinance the project and find a new development team to complete the project.
